Children's Health Investment ProgramWHO IS CHIP?

CHIP, or Children's Health Investment Program of South Hampton Roads, is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization whose mission is to build a healthy community by building a healthy child.

HISTORY AND AFFILIATIONS

CHIP provides a continuum of nationally-recognized model programs for young children and their families: The Children's Health Investment Project (CHIP) and First Steps.

Established in 1998, CHIP is a statewide program that focuses on improvement of children’s health through ensuring that low-income children have medical homes and provision of resources and support services for their families. First Steps, developed by Prevent Child Abuse George in 1984, is a volunteer-based program to assure child well-being and serve as a gateway to community resources for prenatal parents and parents of newborns.

Since 1998, CHIP has operated this unique integrated model that minimized administrative overhead and combines resources for effective provisions of services for all children, prenatal through age 6.

CHIP of South Hampton Roads provides a continuum of prevention and early intervention programs, universal screening for at risk factors associated with poor health outcomes, and appropriate service levels based on children’s and families’ strengths and needs.

The health of our community depends on our ability to raise healthy, happy children who will enter school ready to learn. CHIP offers a continuum of service that are tailored to  meet the needs of all parents with children ages 0 to 6.

CHIP is affiliated with CHIP of Virginia, Prevent Child Abuse Virginia, Parents as Teachers, and Prevent Child Abuse America.
